The Merida eSpresso CC 400 SE EQ is a versatile electric town bike that pairs Shimano’s reliable touring and commuter focused E6100 drive unit with a powerful Shimano E8010 battery, built around a comfort focused frame design. The forged motor bracket and mid-mounted motor offer one of the lowest step-through heights on the market, this provides a low centre of gravity for an extremely stable ride and precise handling. With the addition of a chainguard and full mudguards, wear any clothing without worrying grime or snags. 650b (27.5”) wheels are fitted with big volume Maxxis Crossmark II tyres to provide colossal levels of puncture protection and traction. The 80mm travel Suntour NVX30 front fork means rolling over bumps, curbs and potholes are a breeze. Shimano Hydraulic Disc Brakes offer precise brake control in any weather conditions. Cables are internally routed, and the EQ means this bike comes equipped with lights, a kickstand, rear rack, mudguards and Abus frame lock.

Merida is an international bike brand with its headquarters in Taiwan, the R&D department is based near Stuttgart in Germany. To be based in Germany has historical reasons for MERIDA but the precise location was chosen specifically because the region around Stuttgart is one of the hot spots of the automotive and machine building industry which Germany is famous for and attracts a hugely skilled design and engineer labor force.

The Merida team are more than just highly trained and experienced bicycle creators – they simply love everything ‘bike’. Most of their R&D staff are daily bike commuters while others are serious mountain bikers, who regularly compete in Marathon, Enduro and Downhill competitions, or licensed road racers and even ambitious Ironman triathletes. Get the behind the scenes view of the Merida R&D centre and meet some of their key members of staff in the below video.
