The Merida Big Trail 500 is all about the fun, with its aggressive trail geometry, agile handling characteristics and integration of the latest technologies. From steep, technical trails to fast and flowy singletrack the Big trail will be there with you. Rolling on 29er wheels with a max clearance up to 2.5". Based around a 61 Racelite aluminium frame with modern trail geometry through a long reach, paired with a slack 65.5° head angle and a steep seat angle. This causes the Big Trail to be an excellent descender even when the trail is littered with roots and rocks, while maintaining impressive climbing abilities. RockShox 140mm travel lockout front suspension is paired with the reliable 1x11 Shimano Deore M5100 drivetrain and Hydraulic Disc brakes. Cables are routed through the frame which protects from dirt as well as offering a smooth, clean look. With the added Trail Mount positioned under the seat tube, you can also fit two water bottles into the frame.

Merida Big Nine Bike Sizing Chart

Merida is an international bike brand with its headquarters in Taiwan, the R&D department is based near Stuttgart in Germany. To be based in Germany has historical reasons for MERIDA but the precise location was chosen specifically because the region around Stuttgart is one of the hot spots of the automotive and machine building industry which Germany is famous for and attracts a hugely skilled design and engineer labor force.

The Merida team are more than just highly trained and experienced bicycle creators – they simply love everything ‘bike’. Most of their R&D staff are daily bike commuters while others are serious mountain bikers, who regularly compete in Marathon, Enduro and Downhill competitions, or licensed road racers and even ambitious Ironman triathletes. Get the behind the scenes view of the Merida R&D centre and meet some of their key members of staff in the below video.
